The Chevron stripe bracelet is made with forward and backward knots. Chevron and Candy Stripe are very basic friendship bracelet designs and are beginner friendly.
Supplies you will need:
- embroidery floss or other thread
- tape measure
- a pair of scissors
- masking tape
Step 1 cut threads about 90 centimetres in length. For this technique you need an even number of threads, at minimum 4.
Step 2 Tie threads together with an overhand knot. The overhand knot comes about 8 cm away so that the ends can be braided.
Step 3 Attach the threads to the table with tape. Separate strands in the order of the pattern you want to create.
Step 4 Working from left to right. Forward knots are made by tying two forward half-hitches. Make a “4” shape with the working string (pink) over the second string (purple).
The pink thread is going under purple and comes out through the space between the strands. Pull the knot up and tighten. Repeat once more.
Step 5 Repeat the same process of tying two forwards knots around the next string. Place the blue thread in the middle and continue the knots with the pink thread. Repeat the process until the pink thread makes its way in the middle.
Step 6 Continue tying knots from the right. Repeat the process with the new outermost thread. Now a ”4” shape is formed the opposite way around.
Step 7 When the outermost threads meet in the middle, tie them together. The threads change places with each other.
Step 8 Start the next round from the left with purple thread tying. Remember to make two half-hitches to complete each of the forward knots.
Step 9 Continue until bracelet is long enough to fit around your wrist. Finally, complete by braiding the ends.
